Summary

This course equips learners with theoretical and practical knowledge to function as a COSS on the Network Rail infrastructure. Participants will gain insights into the Network Rail SSOW hierarchy and the diverse protection methods to ensure worksite and work area safety. The course also emphasises communication with personnel at various levels within the Network Rail infrastructure, including roles like Signaller, ECO, and PICOP.

Aims & Objectives

The course is designed to ensure participants can set up a variety of SSOWs as mandated within the Network Rail infrastructure. By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate their ability to accurately interpret relevant sections of the Rule Book and pertinent Railway Group Standards when functioning as a COSS.
  • Exhibit a clear understanding and capability to establish a Safe System of Work before permitting any staff to work on or near the railway line.

Requirements

Learners must undergo a recertification course every two years. This ensures they maintain the acquired knowledge and remain competent in the COSS role.

Course Completion and Sentinel Upload

On Completion

When applicable, once you successfully complete your course or assessment, a member of our staff will update your competency in the Sentinel system. You can order your Sentinel smart cards directly from Sentinel at www.railsentinel.co.uk. Please note that this will incur an additional cost which you will be responsible for covering.
