The DCCR (DC Conductor Rail) competency is essential for those working on the Network Rail infrastructure in areas with a third rail. This third rail is an additional rail that supplies electric current, predominantly found in regions like London, Mersey Rail, and the Northern City Limits.

Aims & Objectives

  • Describe the principles of the DC Electrified system.
  • Identify the main components of the DC conductor rail system.
  • Recognise hazards and risks when near or adjacent to the DC conductor rail.
  • Explain how to cross the DC conductor rail safely.
  • Describe the safe transit of tools and equipment across the DC conductor rail.
  • Highlight defects that make insulated tools and equipment unfit for purpose.
  • Identify hazards linked with working within DC isolations.
  • Describe the work safe and emergency response procedures.
  • Demonstrate the inspection of insulated tools before use.
  • Show the correct application and removal of conductor rail shields.
  • Identify defective tools and shields.
  • Pinpoint the three risk control areas as stated in NR/L3/MTC/EP0152.
  • Demonstrate safe conductor rail crossing.
  • Explain the safe transit of tools, materials, and equipment in the DC electrified area.
  • Demonstrate the application of a Track Circuit Operating Clip safely.

Requirements

There are no prerequisites for this course. However, a keen understanding of the rail industry and its safety requirements will be beneficial.
