INFRA Skills Ltd partner with Eurovia Contracting for Construction Gateway success!

INFRA Skills Ltd, an NSAR Gold Accredited training provider, have been working in partnership with Eurovia Contracting, Coventry City Council and the West Midlands Combined Authority to deliver the Construction Gateway. This is a 2-week programme that will enable local people who are struggling to seek employment; gain the skills, knowledge and experience needed to give them access to better job opportunities.

The course is designed to give learners a strong foundation of competencies to build up their knowledge and skills within the sector. These include; First Aid at Work, Urban Traffic Marshal, Duty Access Manager, Health and Safety Level 1 and a CSCS Touch Screen Test. At the end of the training they are also given the opportunity to take part in work experience days with Eurovia Contracting, where they are able to experience various job roles first hand.

We recently spoke to John McMahon who took part in the first Construction Gateway cohort, in partnership with INFRA Skills and Eurovia Contracting.

After working for Coventry Council for 12 years as a waste disposal operative, John found himself unemployed. Walking past the JobShop, he noticed the advertisement for the Construction Gateway programme, and decided to give it a try.

“The course was better than I expected and I have learnt lots of valuable skills that will help me in the future. The trainers were all extremely helpful, and were able to cater for everyone’s different learning capabilities and styles.”

John spoke of how he enjoyed the work experience with Eurovia Contracting, taking place in Coventry city centre and included marshalling Dumper Trucks and tarmacking. From taking part in both the programme and the work experience, John hopes to start a career in the construction industry in the near future, knowing that the regeneration of Coventry city Centre will provide him with an abundance of opportunities within this sector.

We are overwhelmed with the success of the first cohort, receiving great feedback from the staff and candidates involved in the programme. We wish all participants every success to start on their new career path.
